We first filmed Wishbone on January 6th at the very site where local residents had reported the collection of a pair of abandoned kittens more than a year ago. This is the southernmost part of our study area where many new shrimp-farming ponds are being established next to the large rice field area. Wishbone was accompanied by her kittens, Calvin and Hobbes, and since then has been appeared in our cameras frequently. She is a clever cat and has managed not to get herself captured yet. The reedgrass patches that served as Wishbone's daytime refuge areas were completely cleared and burned (in preparation for planting cattle fodder) near the middle of April and we have not seen Wishbone since then. We hope that she has been clever enough to find a safe new refuge and we certainly would love to see her come back with a new litter of kitttens this coming wet season.
